Every year, more and more people are embracing their sexual orientation or identities. There has been a general increase in the number of lesbians, gays, bisexuals and transgenders (LGBTs). In 2011, according to a UCLA report, there are approximately 9,000,000 individuals who belong to this social demographic.

Along with the increase in their rights, there has also been an increase in occurrences where LGBTs are discriminated against because of their sexual orientations. Companies should provide equal rights to all employees regardless of their gender identities. If you are a lesbian, gay, bisexual or a transgender who is discriminated against, consider hiring a personal injury lawyer who can help you get compensated for the way employers or other people treat you.

If you always get side stepped in promotions at work because of your gender preference, keep a journal or some evidence of how your co-employees or employer are treating you. It is important to let someone know, if you are being unfairly discriminated against. Report the incident to your employer and the proper authorities. If your employer retaliates by granting you unfair dismissal, demotion or any other punishment, then he or she is clearly violating rules of the Employment Non-Discrimination Act. Do not hesitate to bring it to court especially when people who subject you to difficulties know that you are a lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender, all the more chance that they will be apprehended.
