Hiding Your Adam’s Apple Tips for MTF Transgender and Crossdressing
Aug 29th, 2014 by Aleya-t

I always say it’s the details that make or break your feminine image. This is definitely true of an Adam’s apple!

Reducing the visibility of your Adam’s apple will make you look and feel more feminine.

The good news is that there are some easy ways to disguise your Adam’s apple. And they don’t require surgery!

Read on to learn more:

1. Tie on a scarf

I believe that every crossdresser and transgender woman should have a collection of beautiful scarves in her wardrobe.

Tying a scarf around your neck not only hides an Adam’s apple, it adds a flattering pop of color to your face. Two problems solved with one accessory!

2. Apply contouring makeup

Another easy way to downplay your Adam’s apple is to apply contouring makeup over the protruding area. Choose a color that’s one to two shades darker than your natural skin tone.

Dark colors make an area look smaller. This visually reduces the size of your Adam’s apple.

See the video below for a quick tutorial:

3. Wear a high collared top

High collared tops are great for hiding the side view of an Adam’s apple.

Look for shirts and jackets with collars that stand up around the neck. Ruffled collars are especially feminine and flattering.

4. Choose the right hairstyle

Long hair that curls around the neck is a great hairstyle for hiding an Adam’s apple. The length and shape make the Adam’s apple less visible from the side.

A bad hairstyle would be a bob that cuts off right at the level of your Adam’s apple. It draws the eye to that area – NOT what you want to do!

5. Swallow when posing for photos

Your Adam’s apple is less visible when you swallow. Use this knowledge to your advantage when taking photos!

I suggest practicing in front of a mirror first: Swallow about halfway and hold. The trick is to keep your face relaxed (and smile!) while you do this.

Permanent Adam’s apple reduction

The tips above are the easiest ways to disguise your Adam’s apple, but what if you are looking for a more permanent solution?

Tracheal shaving is a common male to female procedure. This surgery reduces the cartilage of the Adam’s apple and gives the neck a more feminine contour.

The procedure costs around $ 4,000-$ 7,000 in the U.S. Like all surgery, it’s not without risks. The biggest risks include unsightly scarring on the neck and/or damage to the voice box.

Are you bothered by your Adam’s apple?

As always, I’d love to hear your thoughts on this topic.

  • Is your Adam’s apple a concern or are you blessed with a feminine neck?
  • Have you had surgery? If so, are you glad you did it?
  • Do you have any other Adam’s apple disguising tips you can share with us?

Are You Making These Five Voice Feminization Mistakes?
Jul 31st, 2014 by Aleya-t

voicefeminization

Let’s face it – achieving a passable feminine voice isn’t easy.

But it’s a critical part of your overall image.

Even if you rarely go out in public as a woman, there’s bound to come a time when you have to open your mouth and speak to someone.

Don’t you want to be the whole pretty package? Having a voice that’s congruent with your image is a big part of that.

The first step towards achieving a feminine voice is avoiding these 5 common mistakes:

1. Speaking too deeply

No surprise here, but if your voice is too deep you’re going to be read as male.

How do you know if your voice is too deep? Your best bet is to use a frequency tuner to measure the pitch of your voice:

  • Male voices typically range from 100-150 Hz
  • Female voices typically range from 175-250 Hz

Here are some free frequency tuner apps you can use on your phone:

2. Speaking in falsetto

Trying to mask a deep voice by speaking in an unnaturally high voice – otherwise known as falsetto – isn’t good, either.

Speaking this way doesn’t make you sound like a woman – it makes you sound like Minnie Mouse.

While you do want to raise the pitch of your voice, you never want to go too high.

3. Whispering

If you are self conscious about your voice, then you might try to compensate by speaking more softly.

However, lowering the volume of your voice doesn’t make you sound more feminine – it just makes it impossible to hear you.

4. Upswinging your sentences

Women naturally have more “melodic intonation” to their voices. In other words, they are more animated when they speak.

Some crossdressers and transgender women make the mistake of trying to imitate this by “upswinging” their voices at the end of every sentence.

“Upswinging” can make each sentence sound like a question. All this does is make you sound like a stereotypical Valley Girl – probably not the type of woman you want to emulate.

5. Pinching your voice

One of the reasons that men have deeper, richer voices than women is because they have a larger “throat space.”

If you try to compensate for your deeper voice by constricting your throat, the result will sound pinched. Think Pee Wee Herman or Kermit the Frog – again, not who you want to emulate!

Avoiding these mistakes is the first step towards achieving a passable feminine voice

It’s easy to go wrong in your attempts to feminize your voice.

The good news is that you CAN achieve a passable feminine if you use the right techniques.

Lucille

A Few More Thoughts on Voice Feminization

By the way, Voice masculinization is the opposite of voice feminization, being the change of a voice from feminine to masculine. Actions for voice masculinization are not generally required for transgender men as the masculinising effects of testosterone on the larynx are usually sufficient to produce a masculine voice. However, Alexandros N.Constansis has stated that “Apart from being unfair to transmen, is also overtly simplistic” and cites Davies and Goldberg in saying that “testosterone doesn’t always drop pitch low enough for FTMs to be perceived as male”. I guess, we all have work to do not what what direction is taken…

Voice feminization is the desired goal of changing a perceived male sounding voice to a perceived female sounding voice. The term voice feminization is used to describe what the desired outcome is of surgical techniques, speech therapy, self-help programs and a general litany of other techniques to acquire a female-sounding voice. The methods used for voice feminization vary from professional techniques used for vocal training, speech therapy by trained speech pathologists and several Pitch altering surgeries.

Most trans women also require facial hair removal, voice training or voice surgery, and sometimes, facial feminization surgery, to be passable as females; these treatments are usually provided upon request with no requirements for psychotherapy or “cross-living”. Or society can change what is the range of feminine beauty to include us as we become!

Just a thought, well an inner thought… WE become women, but still there can be an internal fight that can cause you to have some inconsistencies in your manners, voice and behavior. That’s where feminization self hypnosis can greatly help you. The fight will be over and your feminine side will take control in such a natural and subtle way that your way to move, to think and to speak will change forever.
